This fine old gent is my late grandpappy John Kevin Clear. He was a kind and wise man and as a tribute and an effort to get to know him a little better I drew this portrait. The original photo was taken sometime in the 70's at a liberal rally, he was actually in mid speach as the picture was taken, and I assume the finger was stressing a point, possibly on the "politics of cooperation". If he had a message to share now it would most likely be on the importance of caring for each other and our planet. Also, as I drew this I had several "conversations" with him. In one he told me to remain humble, "If success should ever find you, remain humble in the face of it all".

I took certain "artistic liberties" when translating the beard as I do not have the observational skill or patience yet to capture such complicated things, but art is all a matter of interpretation anyway and I don't think he would have minded!

30hrs, pencil (F - 9B) on A3 Bristol board.

Never mind the beard; your editing worked.

You've been drawing for how long? If I ever develop that kind of skill, it will doubtless be near the end of my life.

He looks like God. I don't believe in God, but y'know. That's what popped into my head when I saw it. Wonderful job, you've done.

I'm not surprised that somebody found your work inspiring. Nope, not at all :) I remember how hard I fell for this picture when I first saw it too :) It's one of the pieces in my favourites gallery that I revisit the most :D
Still gorgeous. I'd fave it twice if I could ^_^
